Situation overview
At 2110 local time, and suffered an 7.2-7.5 earthquake (source: European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre). The earthquake was preceded by earlier shocks, up to 4.1 during the course of the day. According to the Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System (GDACS), over 1.8 million people live with within 100km of the epicenter of this earthquake in both countries. The earthquake was felt across Iran and Iraq, as far south as Basra. Aftershocks continue to be reported, the last at 2324 local time.

An UNDAC team has deployed to Iraq at the request of the Government and OCHA office. The team of 5 arrived the 15th Nov and has been tasked with assessment and information management responsabilities.

 Status of request for assistance
The OCHA Regional and Country Offices from Iran and Iraq have met with the UN Resident Coordinator and the Governments and offered the suite of international tools and mechanisms to support the response.
Currently for both Iran and Iraq, national response with agencies and bilateral support are on top of the situation. Should this change, and international USAR teams be requested for, FCSS- INSARAG Secretariat will inform you immediately.
