1. As of 13 August 2018, BNPB reported that the
total number of IDPs had reached 352,793 persons. The total number of
damaged buildings includes 52,812 houses, 458 education facilities and 197
public facilities. A total of 437 people died as a result of the
earthquake (North Lombok: 374 persons, East Lombok: 12 persons, West
Lombok: 38 persons, Central Lombok: 2 persons, Mataram City: 9 persons and
Denpasar City: 2 persons). The Government has extended the emergency
response phase from 11 to 25 August 2018.
2. President Joko Widodo visited disaster-affected
people in Pemenang Sub-district in North Lombok District and continued to
review the Operations Command Post yesterday, 13 August 2018. The
President was accompanied by the Commander of the Armed Forces, Chief of
Police, Minister for Public Works and Public Housing, Chief of Staff of
the President’s Office, and the Head of BNPB, as well as the Governor of
West Nusa Tenggara Province. It was reported to the President that
priority items for emergency operations include tents, WASH facilities,
water reservoirs, food, nutritional supplements for pregnant women,
blanket and medicines. Heavy equipment and fuel availability are
also a priority. The challenges are lack of transportation
facilities for distribution of logistics. Damaged roads, hilly areas
and village locations continue to present challenges for transportation of
humanitarian assistance.
3. In a closed (limited) coordination meeting
attended by the Governor of West Nusa Tenggara (Muhammad Zainul Majdi),
Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (Basuki Hadimuljono), National
Police Chief (Gen. Tito Karnavian), TNO Commander (Marshal Hadi
Tjahjanto), Head of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Marshal Madya
M. Syaugi), and the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency
(Willem Rampangilei), five presidential directives were provided:
  • Ensuring that the number and categorisation of damaged houses
    (severe, moderate and slightly damaged) is accurate. The government
    will provide compensation of Rp.50 million (equivalent to around US$3,400)
    for severely damaged homes.
  • Ensuring that the damaged house compensation for disaster-affected people
    whose house is heavily damaged should start on 14 August 2018, starting
    with 1,000 houses.
  • Restoring economic activity in disaster-affected areas as soon as
    possible. The President also assigned his staff to participate in
    prioritizing the improvement of facilities that support economic
    activities.
  • Educating people on the importance of constructing
    earthquake-resistant houses to minimize damage should a disaster strike
    again in future. The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing is
    guiding people to construct their houses under RISHA (Simple House Healthy
    Home) guidance. The Ministry is also tasked to help repair and improve
    construction quality of damaged education and health facilities.
  • Assigning the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing to repair
    and/or build health and education public facilities.
4. Coordination:
  • In North Lombok district, the Command Post coordination meeting is
    held daily at 16:00 Central Indonesia Time (WITA), reduced from previously
    two times a day (in the morning and in the afternoon).

  • In East Lombok, the Command Post Coordination Meeting continues to
    be held in Madayin Village, East Lombok, at 16:00 Central Indonesia Time
    (WITA) (15:00 WIB). The contact person is Bapak Eddy Purba, BNPB, at

    posts to assist in the delivery of assistance in Mataram City, East
    Lombok, West Lombok and North Lombok districts.
  • The daily coordination meeting of the Provincial Health Cluster is
    held at 08:00 WITA at the Office of Health Office to be followed by
    sub-clusters (task forces or Pokja) coordination meetings, with the

  • In Lombok, the National Cluster for Displacement and Protection
    Cluster held a meeting on 12 August in Senggigi Beach at West Lombok
    District. One the main of the results of the meeting was agreement on the
    need for a more detailed matrix on who-is-working-where with additional
    information on proposed duration of response and area of coverage for
    coordination purposes and development of the cluster sectoral plan.
  • At the national level, the Displacement and Protection Cluster will
    hold its fourth coordination meeting tomorrow, 15 August, at 14:00 hrs. in
    the office of Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI), Jl. K.H. Wahid Hasyim no. 33,
    Jakarta. Those who would like to join by Skype should contact Ms.

  • The Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Sub-cluster under the
    National Cluster for Displacement and Protection Cluster started holding
    coordination meetings today, 14 August. The contact person for the WASH
    sub-cluster at field level is Bapak Petrasa Wacana, +6281227836239.
    The meeting today was held in North Lombok upon completion of the regular
    coordination meeting of the Command Post. At national level, a WASH
    sub-cluster workshop was held today at UNICEF Office attended by a
    representative from the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing.
    The main result of this meeting is that the Ministry will lead coordination
    for water and sanitation related issues and Ministry of Health for hygiene
    related issues. The initial coordination meeting will be hosted by the
    Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing tomorrow, 15 August, at 16:00
    hrs. at Cipta Karya Building 2nd floor, Ministry of Public
    Works and Public Housing.
  • In Lombok the Education Cluster is holding a coordination meeting
    once every two days. The next meeting is planned to be held tomorrow at
    14:00 hours at the Education Post, at SMP 1 Tanjung, North Lombok District.

    displaced students and teachers: 3,639.
5. The National Facilitation Post (Pospenas) is
providing a short training (free of charge) for humanitarian actors to use
Qlue, an application to map disaster affected areas and humanitarian
assistance needs. For those who are interested to be trained, please

6. PMI/IFRC provided a briefing in a meeting hosted
by the Embassy of Switzerland where it was explained that the damage in
North Lombok District is significant. Current issues are lack of
access to safe drinking water, sanitation and shelter as well as low
connectivity in communication systems such as the internet and mobile
networks. In some areas power cuts continue. PMI is planning to have
an 18-month intervention supporting emergency shelters, WASH, livelihood,
Restoring Family Links (RFL), Protection, Gender and Inclusion (PGI),
Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), and supporting national society capacity.

8. The Task Force from the Ministry of Public Works
