“The situation in Port Au Prince is calm with no impact recorded. However, the epicenter is in North West Haiti, a very remote area, some 7 hours drive from Port Au Prince.

Telecommunications are currently apparently down in the impacted area (OCHA team has been trying to contact their contacts in the area to no avail). Reports of some damage and likely casualties are coming in through social media. The President of Haiti has tweeted this evening, stating that the Government is looking at its own capacity. “

Reported by Civil Protection: 10 death / 135 injured and situation under control, assessment ongoing.

No impact felt in the Dominican Republic.
