 Situation overview

The island of Brava in the archipelago of Cape Verde is on high alert due to seismic activity and potential volcanic eruption. The Government is reviewing options for the possible partial or complete evacuation of the island’s population of some 5,000 people.

 

The United Nations Resident Coordinator (RC), Ms. Patricia Portela de Souza set up a UNCT Task Force to coordinate the UN support to the Government’s preparedness/response effort.

 

The Government of Cape Verde in conjunction with the RC are considering the deployment of an UNDAC team.
