Session title: Risk Analytics for Early Warning and Impact based Forecasting: Learning from recent UNDRR IFRC Collaboration
20 Apr 23 16:30-17:30

SessionAbstract

As part of early warning / early action efforts, UNDRR and
IFRC have been collaborating to enhance the use of global and national datasets
to enhance risk understanding, forecasting and anticipatory action to reduce
humanitarian needs.

This webinar will showcase four initiatives that are helping
the Red Cross to meet its commitment towards 25% of funding being allocated in
advance of disasters and UNDRR to accelerate risk understanding in line with
Sendai Framework targets.

The Global Crisis Databank (GCDB) builds upon existing
disaster data repositories to help better understand footprints of disasters,
as an input to improved impact models to enable pre-disaster release of
emergency funding; the Risk Information Exchange (RiX) aggregates risk
information into one open-source platform; a flood impact tool helps predict exposed
populations, flood depth, displacement, mortality, and injuries; and INFORM
Sub-national – a composite risk index - for South Eastern Europe.

All initiatives aim to use quality data already available in innovative ways to improve risk understanding and early warning in
fragile and disaster-prone humanitarian settings.
