Session title: A path towards ecological international aid – inspirations from experiences in Burkina Faso, Lebanon and France

SessionAbstract

The session will open with the screening of the film produced by Groupe URD and Lark Rise Pictures “A path towards ecological international aid”. This video presents the environmental and climate challenges facing the humanitarian sector as well as inspiring experiences and practices to address them, from Lebanon, Burkina Faso and France.

Representatives of the organisations featured in the video will be present to share their experiences and to discuss other ecological initiatives and the challenges that the sector faces in this area.

About the Nubian Vault

The Nubian Vault Association (AVN) was established in 2000 by a French mason, Thomas Granier, and a Burkinabe farmer, Séri Youlou.

AVN’s mission is to help reverse housing problems for the many in Africa, promoting the development of an adapted housing market, via the diffusion of the NV technical concept. AVN’s programme is implemented in 5 countries in Sahelian Africa: Burkina Faso, Mali, Senegal, Benin and Ghana.

About Charles John Kelly

Mr. Kelly has over 40 years of field experience in disasters, having dealt with compound disasters, droughts, food insecurity, earthquakes, insect infestation, hurricanes, epidemics, floods, war and other emergencies, predominantly in developing countries. Recent work has forced on development of tools to assess environmental impacts of humanitarian assistance, most recently focusing on life cycle analysis of shelter and non-food assistance.  Mr. Kelly provides support on environmental issues to the Global Shelter Cluster and via the WWF Environment and Disaster Management Help Desk.
