SessionAbstract

Have you noticed that the word “chaos” is appearing much more often in the news media and humanitarian analysis and reporting? Humanitarian organizations have long described themselves as “managing chaos” – eliminating, mitigating and preventing the deadly and destructive effects of humanitarian crises. Humanitarian action has saved lives, reduced suffering, and accelerated recovery from
humanitarian emergencies, but natural disasters and conflicts around the globe are more frequent, longer-lasting, more severe, and more uncontrollable than ever before. Our systems, our mechanisms and our strategies have not adapted to the new realities and threats of black swan events, mega-disasters, and more chaotic scenarios as we move beyond the first quarter of the 21st Century.

The interactive session is intended for humanitarian data and information analysts in order to pass on lessons learned, best practices and tradecraft techniques I have gained from more than 30 years in the humanitarian sector.
