In the face of increasingly frequent and intense disasters triggered by weather, climate, and water hazards, timely and accurate information is crucial for humanitarian organizations to act swiftly and effectively. The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Coordination Mechanism (WCM) provides a straightforward yet powerful solution by enabling access to authoritative weather, climate, and water data. This mechanism equips UN agencies and humanitarian partners with the expert advice and predictive insights they need to anticipate and mitigate the impact of disasters before they unfold. This session will demonstrate how the WCM simplifies and accelerates the humanitarian response process by connecting partners with authoritative, reliable, actionable hydrometeorological and climate information, helping them make proactive decisions that save lives and livelihoods. By drawing on the expertise of WMO Members, the WCM fosters collaboration between scientific communities and humanitarian actors, ensuring that response efforts are grounded in the most up-to-date and actionable climate and hydrometeorological data available. Through practical examples and case studies, participants will see how the WCM can streamline response efforts, enhance coordination, and lead to faster, more effective Anticipatory Action. This event will also serve as a call to action, inviting new partners to join the WCM network and strengthen global disaster preparedness. Together, we can build a more resilient future where timely, well-informed preparedness and response actions to climate-related crises are the norm, not the exception. Join us to explore how WCM can be your key to unlocking faster, smarter, and more effective humanitarian action.
