SessionAbstract

Over the last years, there has been enormous progress using predictive models to assess risk and the impacts of specific forecasted hazardous events. This information is now being used to disseminate life-saving early warnings, disburse funding ahead of crises and inform operational decision-making.

In order to validate models, tune them and assess their performance over time, we need to leverage vast amounts of historical data about past hazards and their impacts. Fortunately, the humanitarian and climate communities have made enormous strides in this domain as well. There is more information available now than before about the likelihood of future events, their impacts and how they compare to past events.

This interactive session aims to help stakeholders who are interested in accessing and using this data do so, facilitated by a group of experts from key institutions from the UN, academia, international organisations, government and the private sector.
