Session title: AI-enabling Geographic Information Systems
Organizer(s): Esri, Alcis
27 Mar 25 16:00-17:30   (Salle Montreux)

SessionAbstract

The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is poised to revolutionize humanitarian response by enabling faster, more accurate, and scalable decision-making. However, to realize the potential of AI-enabled GIS systems, it is critical to build a robust foundation—a taxonomy of GIS use cases tailored to humanitarian applications. This interactive workshop invites participants to co-create this taxonomy, drawing from diverse experiences in disaster response, recovery, and preparedness.

Participants will engage in collaborative exercises to identify and categorize key humanitarian GIS use cases, such as disaster risk mapping, real-time situational awareness, logistics optimization, and community resilience planning. The outputs will inform the development of AI algorithms capable of recognizing and prioritizing these scenarios, ensuring relevance and effectiveness in operational settings.

Join us to shape the future of humanitarian GIS and contribute to the development of smarter, AI-powered solutions that advance global disaster management.
