Humanitarian professionals are very often exposed to complex, high-stakes situations.
As part of their role, they must make difficult decisions quickly, negotiate with tough counterparts, and ensure the safety of the people involved in the humanitarian response - all the while remaining in control of the situation and maintaining a leadership role for their teams. This kind of situation can easily generate feelings of stress and anxiety, which ultimately have a negative impact on the outcome of the humanitarian operation.
During this interactive and informal session, you will hear about our research on the pressure management challenges of experienced humanitarians and learn helpful methods to manage your stress response, while also supporting your team in doing the same.
We will provide an opportunity to exchange on the topic and put your pressure management skills to the test through a short simulation. ----
Founded in 2016, the Centre of Competence on Humanitarian Negotiation (CCHN) is a joint initiative of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Médecins Sans Frontières Switzerland (MSF), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).
Our aim is to facilitate the capture, analysis, and sharing of experiences and practices around humanitarian negotiation and to provide a space for dialogue across organizations. At the core of our activities is the CCHN Community of Practice, a global community of humanitarian practitioners working at the frontlines of humanitarian action. |
