The climate crisis is increasingly interwoven with humanitarian action. Communities at the frontlines of the climate crisis are often the same as those supported by the humanitarian sector, and as climate-vulnerable communities are faced with growing losses and damages from climate-induced disasters, humanitarian actors are among the first actors to respond. Therefore, the yearly meetings of the Conference of the Parties (COP) have important consequences for the humanitarian sector and, in turn, humanitarians are in a key position to provide their perspectives to influence climate negotiations. This session, organised by IFRC and Mercy Corps, will discuss the impact of COPs on humanitarian actors, the consequences of COP28, as well as the key areas of relevance of COP29. The session has the following objectives: Establishing a shared understanding of the impact of the decisions and announcements made at COP28, including on the operationalisation of the Loss and Damage Fund, the Global Stocktake, the Global Goal on Adaptation, and the Climate, Relief, Recovery and Peace Declaration. Identifying priorities and key messages on the road to COP29, including the new Climate Finance Goal, and how this relates to humanitarian action.
