There are significant gaps in data, indicators, analytics, and sensors required by humanitarians to make operational decisions for programmatic responses related to climate change. To date, these gaps have not been deliberately identified nor thoroughly addressed.

Researchers from the Yale School of Public Health’s Humanitarian Research Lab (HRL) have identified three main gaps: 1) A lack of standard tracking frameworks and mechanisms for monitoring past climate change-related programs and spending by humanitarian organizations; 2) A lack of standardized indicators and data sets for measuring impacts related to climate change on current crises; and 3) Absence of a common agenda for sensor and analytic research and development to improve climate change-related anticipatory action for future crises.

In this session, Yale HRL researchers will share research that seeks to address the second identified gap related to standard remote sensing-based data collections and analysis approaches for IPC assessment in settings impacted by climate change.
