SessionAbstract

Join HUMLOG-led panel the role of policy Local Procurement.

The panel features some leading voices in the humanitarian space in a facilitated conversation on the ways policy has, or could, encourage the use of local markets, engage local supply chains, and strengthen local economies. Building on the momentum of last years panel on the programmatic and operational benefits of local procurement, this interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral discussion amongst experts seeks to steer a conversation forward by focusing on the role of policy can play in enhancing these benefits.

Facilitated and led by Claire Louise Travers, co-founder of the Local Procurement Learning Partnership and doctoral researcher at the HUMLOG Institute.



Speakers

Benson Adoko – Technical Adviser, Market Systems Development, IRC

Benson Adoko has been working for the International Rescue Committee for over a decade, and previously served on the Advisory Committee of the Markets In Crisis (MIC) Community of Practice. Benson has worked across technical sectors, including in cash and voucher assistance(CVA), Agricultural Livelihoods and Value Chain and Markets Development, Enterprise Development and Employment;and has worked with conflict, marginalized and disaster-affected communities in East Africa.


Jamie Meacham is the formerHead of Strategic Resourcing and Global Programmatic Procurement at Save the Children. He has 15 years of experience in technical procurement, including as a procurement specialist forprivatesector before joining Save the Children. Since joining Save he has overseen the increasing use of local supplies.


Megan McGlinchy - Markets Team Lead, Global Supply Chain Management Department, Catholic Relief Services

Megan McGlinchy has been working at the intersection of humanitarian response programming and markets for over 15 years. Megan joined CRS in 2006, and in 2010 led the agency’s emerging prioritization on markets-based programming. Since 2018, she has developed markets capacity within the Global Supply Chain Management (GSCM) Department, with a focus on CVA, LRP and market monitoring and analysis. She has worked on international responses in Darfur, Haiti, Syria, Philippines, the Horn of Africa, and Sahel, to name only a few.


Hannah Miles - Research Manager, Ground Truth Solutions, ELRHA

Hannah Milesmanages research projects onpeople’s experiences ofcash andvoucherassistanceat Ground Truth Solutions, primarily focusing on Nigeria and Somalia. Ground Truth Solutionsaimsto bring the views and perspectives of people affected by crisis to theforeground, andmake their opinions and recommendations a core part of humanitarian programming.


Paola is a procurement professional with over 10 years of experience in the private sector; she started her journey in the Humanitarian Sector joining the Global Logistics Cluster WREC team as the procurement environmental specialist. She is dedicated to raising awareness andprovidingspecialized guidance to logisticians and procurement professionals in the humanitarian sector to support them in implementing environmentally sustainable initiatives.
