Session title: Empowering Change through IASC PSEA Leadership

SessionAbstract

This session on Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) underscores the paramount importance of fostering a secure and respectful environment within the humanitarian sector. Recognizing the critical need to address issues of sexual exploitation and abuse, WFP, as current IASC PSEAH Champion, is hosting this session allowing participants to gain insights into the significance of PSEA measures and the pivotal contributions of the IASC PSEA Champion in shaping a humanitarian landscape that is committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity and safety.


Speakers

Session Moderator

Natalia MacDonald, Senior PSEA Advisor, WFP.Her work includes the development of PSEA policy framework at the HQ level as well as providing support, guidance and capacity building to regional bureaus and country offices. She also leads interagency PSEA engagement for WFP including active participation in the development of global interagency tools and resources for SEA prevention, response and reporting. Natalia has spend the last 15 years working with the United Nations, intergovernmental organizations, NGOs and consulting firms at global headquarters level as well as in Afghanistan, DR Congo, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Somalia and Yemen. Natalia is a dual national of Canada and Mexico.

Panellists

Theodora Suter, Senior Coordinator, Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse and Sexual Harassment a.i. Theodora is a dedicated humanitarian with a rich background in emergency response and protection initiatives. Formerly the PSEA Regional Coordinator for the Ukraine crisis, she recently returned to Geneva to continue her impactful work. At the International Organization for Migration (IOM), she has led significant projects, including the creation of the “Say No to Sexual Misconduct” training packages and the integration of Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) standards into operations globally. 

MaryJelliti, WFP Deputy Global Logistics Cluster Coordinator. Mary has been working in the humanitarian sector for nearly 15 years, mainly with INGOs before joining WFP as the Deputy Global Logistics Cluster Coordinator. Most of this time has been spent in Logistics & Procurement roles, largely centred on Africa and the Middle East, with time spent in South Sudan, Sudan, Libya, Tunisia, Lebanon and other countries. She is also the Chair of the Frontline Humanitarian Logistics Advisory Board.

Christos Mylonas, Technical Officer, WHO. Christos is working on prevention and response to sexual misconduct. In his role, he coordinates WHO's work on PSEAH across the UN-wide system and the IASC; and leads the implementation of the PSEA assessments and capacitation of implementing partners across the Organisation. He brings more than 25 years of international experience in strategy, advocacy, and stakeholder management, having worked as a senior executive in corporations, in academia, the military, and as non-Executive Director.


Hope HarrietResearch Consultant with GWI on the Empowered Aid project. She is a social worker by profession and has supported the implementation of the Empowered Aid project in the East African Region. Hope has over 10 years’ experience in violence against women prevention and response with a passion for research in the same field. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in social work and social administration and a masters in Management focusing on Monitoring and Evaluation. 

Wendy Cue, IASC Senior PSEAH Coordinator. Previously, she was Head of OCHA’s Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean. Ms. Cue has more than 20 years of international and UN experience in humanitarian affairs, human rights, and sustainable development. Her previous assignments include as Head of the OCHA Office in Nepal, Chief of the Emergency Preparedness Section, Coordinator for the Nepal Risk Reduction Consortium, Chief of the Joint UNEP/OCHA Environment Unit, Field Manager for the Pandemic Influenza Contingency, and Team Leader for human rights investigations in Rwanda and Haiti. She has led UN emergency teams to coordinate initial response to the tsunami in Sri Lanka, floods in Pakistan, volcano eruption in Cabo Verde, and hurricane in Haiti.
