Session title: Natural Disaster Preparedness Supported by Simulation

SessionAbstract

RoboCup Rescue Simulation is an education and research international initiative created in 1999 focused on promoting the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and simulation to support capacity planning and coordination of rescue teams in the socially significant domain of natural disasters.

The implementation of its mission is translated into three main aims:

  1. To maintain a computer simulation environment able to represent the main aspects of natural disaster scenarios that can be used as testbed to assess the effectiveness of capacity planning and response plans of Urban Search and Rescue teams
  2. To define evaluation benchmarks for response plans elaborated by policy-makers to act in real natural disaster situations
  3. To organize competitions to stimulate the exchange of ideas and experience among researchers and practitioners

These aims are designed to support practitioners in the development of more sophisticated and formalized plans to effectively respond to natural disasters and reduce the negative impacts on society.

At HPNW 2023, our goal is to initiate a fruitful collaboration with natural disaster practitioners interested in applying AI and simulation technologies to support their fieldwork activities.
