Session title: The Power and Impact of Coaching in the Humanitarian and Development Sector
19 Apr 23 10:00-11:30

SessionAbstract

Objectives : There is growing recognition in the humanitarian and development sector that coaching can be a powerful agent of positive change for staff of all backgrounds and positions. The facilitators will explain the impact of coaching used in several ways - coaching delivered by internal professional coaches, and/or delivered by supervisors trained in coaching skills. They will also demonstrate how the philosophy of coaching - helping someone find their own way - is in line with trends in empowering teams, partners and communities. Finally, they will show how coaching has been adopted and used in different cultures and at various levels throughout organizations in the aid sector with great
impact.

Intended Session Outcome: Participants will understand how coaching may be used within their organization or by the participant themselves in their daily work. The session will be very interactive and include a few scenario examples as well as some takeaway tips managers can use immediately with their teams.

Agenda

The session will begin by exploring what coaching looks like in the aid sector and its different uses, stories on the ground of those impacted by coaching, presentation of two scenarios and discussion with participants on the differences between a traditional versus "coach approach", and conclude with a few best practices that managers can start using with their teams.
