Session title: Disaster maps for emergency response - Situational Awareness based on remote sensing
20 Apr 23 11:00-12:30

SessionAbstract

Co-organized by the European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC) and UNITAR/UNOSAT, the session will bring together experts from remote sensing, Disaster Managers, Humanitarian Aid Actors, and other relevant stakeholders to discuss the use of remote sensing technologies in disaster management and humanitarian relief operations.

The session will focus on how remote sensing can support humanitarian decision-making related to resource mobilization and allocation of resources in disasters by examining the use of remote sensing-based information products. The session will further discuss challenges and limitations of remote sensing in emergency response and explore ways to overcome them.

Case studies and real-world examples of the effective use of remote sensing in disaster response will be presented and possible future improvements discussed. The session will also explore the potential for strengthening, collaboration, and partnerships among remote sensing providers, Disaster Managers, Humanitarian Actors, and other stakeholders to enhance the effectiveness of remote sensing in emergency response efforts.
