Session title: The Growing Threats of Drones on Humanitarian Operations
Organizer(s): PAX, CIVIC, GISF
12 Mar 26 09:00-10:30   (Salle 15)

SessionAbstract

The growing use of drones by states and non-state actors is also impacting humanitarian operations. With expension of military drone use and easy access to cheap precision weapons by armed groups and increase technological capacity for precision strikes, there are increased risks to both humanitarian groups and affected communities. From direct targeting of humanitarian convoy to strikes against critical infrastructure, the effects are direct and critical.

This session brings together humanitarian operators from the field to share experiences, and drone experts to provide insights into these new weapon technologies and the risk they pose. The session aims to provide both an overview of the current state of affairs and a starting point for discussion on what could and should be done to counter these threats
