Session title: The Role of Emergency Medical Teams in Humanitarian Crises
Organizer(s): EMT
12 Mar 26 09:00-10:30   (Pleniere A)

SessionAbstract

This session will examine the role of Emergency Medical Teams in responding to today’s most complex humanitarian crises, drawing on recent experiences from humanitarian contexts across all Regions. It will highlight the provision of life-saving emergency and trauma care in settings characterised by insecurity, disrupted health systems, and constrained access.

The discussion will explore how EMTs support coordinated emergency response and continuity of care, including the establishment of safe referral and medical evacuation pathways within and across borders, in close collaboration with ministries of health, local providers, and partners. The session will also address how deployments and surge support contribute to strengthening national EMTs through training, mentoring, operational readiness, and institutionalisation, enabling countries to lead faster and more effective responses in future emergencies.
