SessionAbstract

In an era of shrinking budgets and a sector-wide 'reset', how do we ensure that accountability remains a non-negotiable rather than a perceived 'nice-to-have'? This interactive workshop serves as a design lab for the upcoming Humanitarian Accountability Report (HAR). We will move beyond the "what" of accountability to tackle the "how": how to mandate it, how to measure it, and how to protect it under pressure.

Why Attend?

Participants will contribute directly to the evidence base of the next HAR by exploring the friction between institutional commitments and operational realities. We will examine the gap between donor-driven requirements and the essential need for accountability to the people that aid organisations assist.

Key Themes for Exploration:

  • Values vs. Constraints: Strategies for holding to core commitments in resource-constrained environments.
  • The Power Balance: Finding the connections between donor-driven mandates and community-led accountability.
  • Closing the Loop: Overcoming persistent gaps in participation, safeguarding, and the ability to adapt programs based on feedback.
  • Data to Action: Transforming diverse data into a compelling case for equitable partnerships and locally led response.

Outcomes:

The insights generated in this session will act as input for the HAR, helping to define collective actions that reinforce accountability as a foundational element of a system in reset
