The humanitarian sector faces an unprecedented funding gap, with only 26% of needs met. Sustainable energy offers aconcretepathway from short-term aid to long-term development,decreasingdependence onnatural resources, improving localeconomiesandreducingcostsand emissions through transitions from diesel generators to renewable energy.The GPA estimates that the humanitarian sector runs on over 11,000 diesel generators at an annual cost of 100+ million USD, while 40 million displaced people lack access to electricity and 50 million lack access to clean cooking solutions. Thus,taking collective action on this topiccontributes to the core aims of the Humanitarian Reset, of “Greening the Reset”,attracting new partners,leveragingdevelopment finance, and enabling shared service models for climate-smart responses that strengthenoperationalresilience and dignity.

This session brings together humanitarian actors, donors,NGOandthe GPA’sNetworkmembersto share latest insights onscaling the transition of humanitarian operations to renewables and public-private partnership to achieve sustainable energy access in humanitarian contexts.Energy experts from humanitarian agencies, companies and localorganisationswill share grounded experience on innovative deliverymodels, anddiscuss implications for the wider humanitarian sector.Key themes explored will be innovative finance models (results basedfinance, smart subsidies, de-risking/guarantees)andclimate and carbon finance.
