Session title: Mixed Movements Routes in Focus: Cross-Regional Collaboration Turning Route-Based Evidence into Collective Impact
Organizer(s): IOM Displacement Tracking Matrix
4 Mar 26 10:00-11:00

SessionAbstract

Human mobility today often occurs along fluid, interlinked routes that cross multiple countries and regions. Understanding these complex mixed movements, driven by factors such as conflict, economic pressures and climate-related shocks, requires analytical approaches that can connect conditions at origin, through transit and at destination to better inform humanitarian programming and policy development.

This session will convene a panel of organisations leading the development and implementation of route-based data approaches to understanding mixed movements and finding solutions for its unique challenges. Panellists will explore the methodological approaches used to harmonize diverse datasets, the challenges of producing route-based analysis, and the role of technology and interoperability in strengthening cross-regional insights. The discussion will offer practical examples of how route-based perspectives enhance collaboration, improve the relevance of humanitarian programming, and support evidence‑informed policymaking. Participants will gain a clearer understanding of global mobility trends and opportunities to integrate route‑based analysis into strategic planning and operational decision-making.
