Organizer(s): The GWC Climate Change Working Group, Global WASH Cluster, IOM, UNHCR, GTH
12 Mar 26 14:00-15:30   (Salle 9)

SessionAbstract

The humanitarian sector has made clear commitments to address climate change through initiatives such as the Climate and Environment Charter and the IASC Climate Crisis Roadmap. Across the globe, WASH practitioners are already responding to the impacts of the climate crisis, yet the challenge remains: how do we operationalize these commitments within the WASH sector?

This session will open with an introduction to the Global WASH Cluster’s Framework for Climate Action and Humanitarian WASH—a practical tool that helps WASH actors understand how their work contributes to climate action and provides a foundation for dialogue on accessing climate financing for the most vulnerable populations, those who currently receive the least support.

Building on this, a panel discussion will explore how climate action is being integrated into humanitarian WASH responses, focusing on strengthening accountability to affected populations, increasing the sustainability of WASH infrastructure and services, and delivering value for money in a context of shrinking budgets.

The session will conclude with reflections from the panel on how the Climate Change Working Group and the Geneva Technical Hub can support climate-resilient WASH services in an increasingly challenging funding landscape.
