SessionAbstract

Anticipatory Action (AA) is a practical and proven way to deliver on the Humanitarian Reset’s call for a more preventive, efficient, and locally led humanitarian system. This interactive hybrid session will explore how AA operates in fragile and conflict-affected settings, where predictable climate shocks intersect with conflict, displacement, and economic instability. Through lightning presentations, a moderated panel, live polling, and participant Q&A, the session will showcase examples from Somalia, Afghanistan, Haiti, Niger, and Yemen; address common misconceptions; and identify solutions to challenges such as data gaps, access and other operational constraints. Participants will collectively identify priority enablers for scaling AA in FCAS between 2026–2030. The session targets practitioners, donors, UN agencies, NGOs, and policy actors with varied levels of familiarity with AA.
